Sacramento, California – April 16, 2020 – Sacramento Native American Health Center (SNAHC) is proud to announce Anthony Taula-Lieras as the new Director of the Community Health Department, which will house Youth Initiative programs and grants. Anthony comes to SNAHC with a unique blend of experience in Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration, Mental Health, Public Health, Education and Non-Profit Management.
Anthony is committed to health equity and his work focuses on the reduction of — and, ultimately, elimination — of disparities in health and in its determinants, including social determinants. His commitment to health equity pushes him to strive for the highest possible standard of health for all people and giving special attention to the needs of those at greatest risk of poor health, based on social conditions. This lens will be particularly useful in the work Anthony will provide for SNAHC. As the Community Health Director, Anthony will direct a variety of youth and family serving programs. These programs are youth and family driven, meaning youth and family have a decision-making role in the use of resources and care received.
Anthony identifies as an Urban Native (Diné/Comanche/Chicano) and has a multicultural family (Nez Perce, Umatilla, Samoan). He firmly believes Culture is a form of Prevention and participates in Pow-Wow with his Northern Singing and Fancy/Jingle/Traditional dancing family. He hopes to counter false narratives of Native people to make visible the resilience, strength, creativity and overall beauty of Indian Country. Anthony comes with an educational background in Community Studies, Education, Management and Health Care Integration.
“SNAHC is committed to expanding services for youth, families and community into South Sacramento as part of a culturally appropriate healthcare delivery system,” said Britta Guerrero, CEO. “Anthony brings the skills and experience necessary for this project and beyond. We are absolutely thrilled to add his leadership to our team.”
