Developing a Self Care Plan for the Holidays

For most, the holiday season is a time of joy, family and happiness. But for an increasing number of people, holidays can take a physical and emotional toll. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) creates mood shifts as it becomes colder and darker earlier. The thought of holiday responsibilities, financial woes and family get-togethers can sometimes be too much to bear, causing stress, anxiety, depression and even suicidal thoughts. Those without family can also feel deep loneliness and hopelessness. At the Sacramento Native American Health Center, we believe in whole person care, which includes mental health care.

If you or someone you know needs to develop a self-care plan as a coping mechanism in dealing with holiday stressors, it is important for you to reach out. We are here to help provide support as a partner through the winter, the holiday season and beyond. We have specialized counseling services for youth, adults and families.

We provide:

  • Wellness programs
  • Family and one-on-one counseling
  • Peer and group counseling
  • Addiction and substance abuse recovery programs
  • Suicide prevention
  • Culturally sensitive support
  • Gender sensitive support

Call us to make an appointment with our Behavioral Health Center. We welcome everyone who needs care, with no tribal requirements. Same day, walk-in and Saturday appointments are available to fit your busy schedule. Medi-Cal, Managed Care and most low-cost health insurance plans are accepted. We also have a sliding fee schedule available for those who qualify.

Our dedicated helping staff is made up of counselors, therapists and doctors with the goal of restoring physical, emotional and spiritual balance and well-being for those who may become overwhelmed or depressed during the holidays. We offer a community of hope, support and care. If you are having a difficult time during the holidays, stop by or call us today to make an appointment (916) 341-0575.

If you are interested in giving during the holidays, please consider supporting SNAHC! Your tax deductible donation helps us accomplish our mission year round.
